Lagrein 2022
Black cherry & dark chocolate
Lagrein is a deeply coloured red variety from north east Italy, with origins dating back to the 16th century. Traditionally, it is rarely bottled on its own and is more often used to deepen colour and structure in other red wines. When we first came across Lagrein in 2015, it was clear to James that this variety was worthy of standing on its own, particularly in the cool climate of Orange NSW.
In the glass, the colour is strikingly dark and inky, the deepest red we grow. It stains the glass and immediately commands attention. The palate follows with equal intensity, delivering an awe inspiring mouthfeel with firm, dry tannins and concentrated flavours of black cherry and dark chocolate that fill the mouth with power and depth.
This is a bold, structured wine made for robust flavours and slow enjoyment. It pairs beautifully with hard aged cheeses, game meats and rich, savoury dishes that can stand up to its weight and presence.
Soundtrack: Do I Wanna Know? by Arctic Monkeys
Dark, brooding and unmistakably confident, this is how we imagine this wine being enjoyed. Intense, grounded and unapologetic.
